With the Simose Art Museum as its centrepiece, accompanied by the ten accommodation buildings of the Art Garden Villa, plus a restaurant, the Simose complex by Shigeru Ban Architects sits on a site facing the Seto Inland Sea in Hiroshima. The complex is thus divided into several buildings with different functions and features a long mirrored glass screen at its centre. The private museum showcases paintings, crafts, and other works collected over two generations. This book examines the project in detail, from its context in the landscape and city to insights into material choices and the construction itself, and features a text by Shigeru Ban and Kenya Hara.
