Jeder Band wird von komplementierenden fundierten Texten unterschiedlicher Autorinnen und Autoren und detaillierten Informationen begleitet, die einen zusätzlich vertieften Einblick in diese sorgfältig kuratierte Sammlung erlauben.

Christ & Gantenbein marks its 25th-anniversary with the publication of “Christ & Gantenbein. Projects I–III”, a three-volume monograph featuring over 160 projects from 1998 to 2023. This publication, developed with graphic designer Ronnie Fueglister and published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther und Franz König, presents the practice’s architectural work over time.

The monograph includes an almost complete selection of Christ & Gantenbein’s projects within this timespan. With 640 pages across three volumes, it showcases the firm’s evolution from early designs to completed buildings such as the Swiss National Museum extension and the Kunstmuseum Basel.

“Projects I–III” adopts a predominantly visual format, featuring 1,800 images including photographs and sketches, 700 plans, and 45 accompanying texts. The content has been meticulously curated by Emanuel Christ and Christoph Gantenbein, who personally selected the most meaningful documents from the firm’s extensive 25-year archive. The layout, designed by Ronnie Fueglister, takes the form of a contact sheet, presenting each project in reverse chronological order — from the completed building to the initial sketches. The first featured project is a garden porch, the last of the series is the social housing Vaugirard, recently completed in Paris.

This approach conveys Christ & Gantenbein’s design philosophy and their focus on typological exploration and context. The publication’s design employs a clear visual language that echoes the firm’s architectural precision, offering a comprehensive view of their process from conceptual sketches to finished constructions.

The monograph features work from photographers who have collaborated closely with Christ & Gantenbein over extended periods, including Stefano Graziani, Walter Mair, and Roman Keller, whose images capture the essence of the studio’s architectural vision. Additionally, a selection of relevant texts by various authors provides further insight into the practice and its projects.

As the first comprehensive catalog of Christ & Gantenbein’s work, this monograph documents the practice’s contributions to architecture in the Swiss and international context over the past 25 years.
