The use of mass timber (also called engineered wood) in architecture involves prefabricated modular parts, making construction quicker and cheaper, and applying digital technology to design and fabrication. Both glue-laminated timber (glulam) and cross-laminated timber (CLT) are load-bearing materials that offer buildings not only a positive carbon footprint but also flame-retardant qualities.
